More specifically they are used to open bank accounts and get seller permits by sole proprietors, corporations, partnerships, non-profit organizations, trusts and estates, government agencies, certain lucky individuals and other serious business entities. Federal Employer ID numbers can be obtained by completing IRS form SS-R or by calling the IRS or by contacting your local business attorney who can help you do it right.
